To help protect our members from phishing scams, SmartHub is introducing an optional security feature: Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). 2FA adds an extra step when you log in to your SmartHub account. Instead of just entering your password, you’ll also enter a special code sent to your phone or email, making it more difficult for scammers to access your account—even if they somehow get your password.
What is phishing?
Phishing is a scam where cybercriminals pretend to be a trusted company to trick you into giving up personal information like your login, password, or financial details. These scams often come as fake emails or text messages with links that look real but are designed to steal your data.
Why use 2FA?
With 2FA, you’re using two pieces of information to verify it’s really you. It’s a simple and effective way to keep your account secure and your information private.
How to turn on 2FA in SmartHub.
- Log in to SmartHub — either on the web at midstateelectric.smarthub.coop or through the SmartHub mobile app.
- Open the Menu and go to Settings
- Mobile app: Tap Settings, then select Security.
- Web: Stay in Settings.
- Select Two-Factor Authentication.
- Web: Select Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Choose how you want to receive your verification code (Email, text message, or one time code generator app).
- Enter your contact information and click Continue.
- Enter the verification code sent to you and click Verify/Continue to finish setup.
Once 2FA is activated, you’ll be asked for a code whenever you log in, reset your password, or add services to your account.
We encourage all members to enable 2FA for added peace of mind. With cyber threats evolving and becoming more sophisticated, ensuring the security of your account, and personal information is more critical than ever. It’s quick and easy to set up and adds an extra layer of protection to your account.
